Con- ASS for the Philippines?

A lot of Filipinos were outraged by the initiatives of the House of Representatives to ammend the Philippine Constitution. House Resolution 1109 or popularly known as Con-Ass was approved on June 3, 2009. Approval of House Resolution No. 1109 empowered Congress to convene itself into a Con-ass in which members of the House and the Senate would vote jointly—not separately—to amend the 1987 Constitution.
Some people say this is a way for some of our politicians to keep themselves in power.

Our kababayans who are not able to attend rallies joined a facebook campaign STOP CON-ASS NOW to express their disappointment.


What is Constituent Assembly?

A constituent assembly (sometimes also known as a constitutional convention) is a body composed for the purpose of drafting or adopting a constitution. Unlike forms of constitution-making in which a constitution is unilaterally imposed by a sovereign lawmaker, the constituent assembly creates a constitution through “internally imposed” actions, in that members of the constituent assembly are themselves citizens, but not necessarily the rulers, of the country for which they are creating a constitution. Hayden Kho's Gagorder Plea Rejected

Head of Department of Justice of the Philippines Emelie Delos Santos rejected the cosmetic surgeon's plea to bar all parties in making media statements.

Vicki Belo Put on Immigration Watch List

In connection with the sex scandal investigation, Dr. Vicki Belo has been placed in the Bureau of Immigration watch list. Allegedly, Belo is among the people responsible for uploading the sex video on the web.

Halili sues Belo, Kho for medical malpractice

Katrina Halili filed a new complaint against Dr. Vicki Belo and Dr. Hayden Kho today, June 18, 2009.

Here is an excerpt from a PEP.PH news article:

"Sa panibagong reklamong ito ni Katrina, hindi na direktang tungkol sa sex video ang laman ng kanyang affidavit laban sa dalawang medical practitioners at sa clinic na pag-aari ni Dr. Belo, ang Belo Medical Group, Inc. (BMGI). Inirereklamo ng aktres sa pagkakataong ito ay ang mismong propesyon nina Dr. Belo at Dr. Kho, kung sinunod ba ng dalawa ang specific requirements alinsunod sa Medical Rules and Regulations."

Filipina So You Think You Can Dance Finalist

Another Filipina made it as finalist in season 5 of the top-rating reality competition in the US “So You Think You Can Dance” and she’s none other than Karla Garcia!

23-year-old Karla Garcia lives on Oxon Hill, MD but currently resides in Brooklyn New York. Her dance specialty is Jazz/Contemporary. She is a graduate of New York University. Her early dance experience included learning traditional Filipino folk dancing. Garcia performed on Broadway in “Hot Feet,” danced in the ensemble of the “Radio City Christmas Spectacular” and went on to tour with “Wicked.” She is a member of “Boogie Bots Crew.”

Last night, she and her partner wowed the judges. Let us support our very own kababayan, vote for Karla!
